Fertility Ukraine recently participated in production of a documentary film about gestational surrogacy in Ukraine. The documentary was shot by a team of German journalists from Bayerischer Rundfunk. They documented a daily routine of our Head of Client Services, including her visits to our partner clinic for a medical screening of a surrogate mother. The shooting day was completed by an interview with participation of our agency’s co-owner.

The journalists were interested in a wide range of issues related to infertility treatment with surrogacy. The questions ranged from very simple ones – e.g. why does the surrogate mother has to take vitamins? or how does her daily routine looks like? and up to a more complex matters – e.g. ethical aspects of compensation to a surrogate mother or psychological screening of candidates.

To our opinion it is extremely important to unveil the curtains of secrecy and uncertainty, which often create a lot of confusion and misunderstanding around surrogacy programs in our country.  We hope that documentaries like the one made by Bayerischer Rundfunk will help the German speaking audience to better understand that gestational surrogacy, despite being a complex and multidisciplinary exercise, still remains just a medical treatment that helps people to have children and should not be treated as a sort of a shady criminal activity… Well, I guess this statement is true under condition that you choose the right agency …
